KUALA KUBU BARU: Former PKR youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor will hand over files to Parliament which he alleges contain proof of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cover-up of a scandal involving former World Bank president Paul D. Wolfowitz.

He hopes to pass the documents to Rembau MP and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin tonight during a ceramah. Speaking to the press here, Ezam — who was Anwar’s former political secretary — said the documents would be useful in the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee hearing into Anwar’s statement, linking the 1Malaysia concept to Apco Worldwide. He said a Malaysian working in the World Bank had passed him the documents two days ago.

Ezam claimed the officer had given him the documents as he (the officer) could not stomach Anwar’s accusation against the Government regarding Apco when he (Anwar) had tried to cover up for “Wolfowitz, a Jew who was also one of the architects of the war on Iraq.” The proof: Zam holding up several documents at a press conference Wednesday. He says they implicate Anwar in the Wolfowitz sex scandal The 2001 scandal involved the promotion that Wolfowitz’s girlfriend Shaha Ali Riza had got. Wolfowitz subsequently resigned.

Ezam said the documents comprised letters and internal reports from the investigation into Wolfowitz’s involvement with Shaha, an employee at the bank’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

The documents, he claimed, were proof Anwar was directly involved in trying to shield Wolfowitz from the fallout of the investigations into Shaha’s transfer to the Foundation For The Future headed by him, although her tax-free salary would continue to be paid by the bank.

Ezam also gave the press a copy of a letter by Anwar dated October 1, 2006, to Robin Cleveland — Wolfowitz’s counsellor at the World Bank — in which he (Anwar) asked for Shaha to be transferred to the foundation. This letter was the same one quoted by an April 14, 2007, report in the Washington Post exposing the sex scandal involving Wolfowitz and Shaha.

“These documents will prove that Anwar’s relationship with Wolfowitz went beyond normal friendship. “I challenge Anwar to answer this. This is a betrayal to the Muslims and as a Malaysian, he has betrayed the country by working for an entity which was set up to serve the interests of Israel.

He said that Anwar had used government funds to engage a lobbyist — the Asia Pacific Policy Centre in America — to do a similar job as Apco when he was the deputy prime minister. In an immediate response to Ezam’s allegations,

PKR information chief Latheefa Koya said the party was not worried about the issue. She questioned why Ezam took so long to get his hands on the documents. “This is not the first time that Ezam has made such claims. He has been hinting about having boxes of documents, but until today we have yet to see it. If he truly has the documents, please expose them,” she added.
